We flew into Mexico City and checked into our very central hostel. Thanks Frosty! I booked in for a food tour our first day and I wasn't disappointed. I love food tours! Good introduction to a busy city, bit of history and lots of food! The best thing was a ceviche tostada. It was so good I took Frosty there the next day. We still talk about it! Yummmmm! The worst part was seeing a dead guy on the street barely covered with a sheet. We think he might have been hit by a car. That's what our tour guide said anyway. That's one way to bring you down off your ceviche high. The rest of the tour was still great!
One night we went to watch Mexican Wrestling. One of the best things I've ever seen. Seriously! I couldn't believe how amazing it was. I'm going to quit teaching and become a wrestler. The first few guys were OK. Just warming us up for the real deal. By the end I was yelling and clapping and wishing I could sledge the wrestlers in Spanish like everyone else. We weren't allowed to take in our camera which was a bummer but we bought some wrestling masks to make us feel better.

We had a room booked in Puerto Morelos by the beach in Yucatán but our flight was delayed which led to a series of unfortunate events including being unaware of time change, missing buses, losing our nights accommodation in Puerto Morelos and losing another nights accommodation in Cancun because we got stupidly lost. We finally found a hotel right near the bus stop at outrageous prices but I didn't care because it was now 1 am and the place had an air conditioner! Livin Lavida Loca!
We eventually made it Puerto Morelos the next day and into our air bnb apartment. Puerto Morelos was really chilled and we spent our time relaxing on the sunny, white sand beach.Over the road from our place was a cheap quesadilla stand. Oooh boy they were delicious! We ordered some and the lady bought out some salsas. I thought she said Jalapño salsa and we doused our quesadillas in sauce. She really said habañero and we almost had to get face transplants. It was insanely spicy but there was nothing we could do
but act tough and eat it all. I was suprised how how well Frosty could control his whimpering.

After our relaxing time we ecentually moved on to Vallalodid, a beautiful town filled with colourful spanish buildings. We got a nice surprise on our first night after a long bus ride. It was Carnival and it went for a week! They had blocked off the main square and had a stage in every corner. People lined the streets and filled the park while performers cut laps around the park in their fancy outfits. It was a big party with plenty of street food and beers with chili and limes.
We hired some bikes one day and went on a beautiful ride to a cenote. Cenotes are like water holes and the area was filled with them. It was nice and hot so by the time we got there on our bikes the water was beautiful and refreshing. And we had the whole place to ourselves! I swam round and round and round and round and also round. I love swimming and it had been so long! Alas, the winter had not been kind to my pasty, pasty skin and I was like a glow stick getting about. After our swim we rewarded ourselves with a lush garden lunch and a tour and tasting at an organic tequila shop.
I thought I didn't like tequila but this stuff was amazing! Too bad they only had massive bottles we couldn't lug around. One had Chappo's name on it otherwise!
Another day we caught a bus out to the famous Chichen Itza. Twas saweeeeet!

Another bus ride and we arrive at Tulum a pretty touristy but beautiful beach town. Touristy means expensive and we got ourselves possibly the most expensive tent ever! It did have a real mattress, powerpoint, mini fan and light but come one! It´s a tent! still, beautiful place and the lovely owner rented us out bikes. We morphed into BMX bandits pretty quickly and rode everywhere. The beach was a half hour ride from our place where we found cool bars to drink cocktails and watch live flamenco music. I had the best cocktail ever! Fresh coconut water (he cracked them open with a machete), fresh passionfruit and gin. Bloody delicious! So delicious that I order more! Frosty was crazy and got a habanero cocktail.
The guy's a loony.
Up the road further is an old ruin right on the water. It used to be a
proper city so the site is pretty massive. The water is the bluest water
you've ever seen and you can swim at the beach while checking out the ruins. Pretty spesh! It was packed though and we preferred to swim at a quieter spot up the beach. Classic!
Not enough time in Mexico. We will be back! Next stop, Central America!
